Footage
Real footage from Pexels (video 8048247 by Antoni Shkraba), used under the Pexels license and cut to 9 seconds. We added the name bar. "Alex Rivera" and "Product Lead" are made-up demo text: the person in the footage has no connection to that name or title and does not endorse this site.

How it was made
We added the name bar and ran the same footage through the same eraser model twice with the prompt "remove text": once marking the whole bar, once marking only the letters. In each, the marked box uses the model output while the bar is on screen, blended in over 0.3 seconds, and the rest keeps the original frame. The raw model outputs are kept. It was not an order placed on this site.
Original
The footage with a made-up name bar, on screen from about 0.8 to 8.1 seconds. No audio track.
Bar removed
Letters and plate both removed. The model rebuilds the shirt and the shelf behind the plate; it does not recover the original pixels.
Text only
Letters removed and the plate kept. The repaired area can show a slight change in texture.

What it does

What a video lower thirds remover does

A lower third is the name bar or label that sits in the lower part of the picture, such as a guest name and job title. The remover repaints the area you box so that it disappears. You decide how much to box: only the letters, or the letters and the plate together.

  • Box only the letters to keep the plate, or the plate too to clear it
  • Up to three fixed areas, each with its own time range
  • Play the whole clip: a bar that slides in needs every position covered

Video Lower Thirds Remover: facts and quick answers

Video Lower Thirds Remover takes a burned-in name bar, title or label plate out of a video by rebuilding the picture behind it. It is for bars that are already part of the exported picture, not for a text layer you can still delete in an editor. For dialogue lines, see the subtitle remover.

Works on
Name bars, speaker titles and label plates in the lower part of the picture.
Works best when
A plain plate that stays put over a calm background.
Harder when
A bar that animates or is see-through, or one that covers a face, hands or patterned clothing.
Not the right tool when
A label that is a separate track or layer you can switch off or delete.

Quick answers

What is a lower third?

It is the name, title or label shown over the lower part of the frame while someone is on screen, for example a guest name with a job title.

Is this the same as removing subtitles?

The method is the same, but the text is different. Subtitles follow speech, while a lower third labels a person or a place. Use the subtitle remover for dialogue lines.

Compared

Letters only, or the whole plate?

What you box decides what stays on screen. Pick the version that fits the next edit.

  • Only the letters

What stays: The empty plate stays on screen.

What to check: Whether the empty plate looks natural and no letter edge remains.

  • The letters and the whole plate

What stays: No bar. The picture behind it is rebuilt.

What to check: The area behind it, such as a wall or a shirt.

  • A plate with a border or soft shadow

What stays: A clean frame, when the box includes the shadow edge.

What to check: A faint outline at the edge of the box.

  • A bar that slides or fades in and out

What stays: Only what your boxes cover, in their time ranges.

What to check: Every frame of the move, since the tool does not follow the bar.

  • A bar over a person or clothes

What stays: A harder repair that has to rebuild fabric, hands or skin.

What to check: Sleeves, collars and hands, as in the still example where the plate covers a sleeve.

People and use cases

Name Bars You May Need to Clear

For interviews, lessons and talks you own or may edit, when the name on screen is out of date or no longer fits the new cut.

Choose a video
  • Interview editors

Clear the old guest name before you reuse a clip in a new episode or a trailer, then add the right label in your editor.

  • Course teams

An instructor changed their title or left. Remove the old bar from the exported lesson instead of recording it again.

  • Brand and localisation teams

A label is in the wrong language for another market. Clear it, then add the new label in the editor.

Quality guide

What to Expect from a Video Lower Thirds Remover

Results depend on the plate, what sits behind it and how it moves. Play the whole clip before you use it. The quality guide explains what affects the result.

Easier cases

A good place to start.

  • A plain plate over a calm background
  • A bar that stays in one place
  • Letters only, with the plate left in place

Harder cases

Plan to check these more closely.

  • A bar that slides, scales or fades in
  • A plate over hands, a face or patterned clothing
  • See-through plates and soft shadows

Before you use the result

Look closely at these spots.

  • Where the bar was, at the start, middle and end of its time range
  • Sleeves, collars and hands near the plate
  • The frames just before it appears and after it leaves
